Plus, another unforgettable red carpet look from Billy Porter.
It takes a lot of work to outshine a jaw-dropping backdrop of some 40,000 multi-colored roses, but the stars of Broadway pulled it off at Sunday evening’s 73rd annual Tony Awards by playing with proportion, prints, texture and a lot of tulle. Florals made an appearance, too, as did rainbow patterns with nods to Pride Month. Elegant, floor-length gowns in jewel tones were also popular and worn by musical icon Sutton Foster and Rachel Brosnahan. Meanwhile, bold sequins were the sartorial statement of choice for “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens, Tina Fey and three-time Tony Award winner Judith Light, who was honored at the awards show for her support of the LGBTQ community and her work to end HIV/AIDS.
The evening also brought us also another unforgettable red carpet look from Billy Porter. The “Pose” star showed up in a red satin and frothy pink tulle ensemble designed by Celestino Couture. It included over 30,000 Swarovski crystals and featured recycled fabric from a curtain backdrop from Broadway’s “Kinky Boots,” for which Porter won the 2013 Tony for best actor in a musical.
