Dotdash Meredith announced Friday morning that on May 1, Sally Holmes will assume the role of editor in chief and general manager of InStyle. InStyle’s editor-in-chief role has been unfilled since Laura Brown left the position in February 2022. (The Daily Front Row was first to report this news.)

“InStyle has been the go-to destination for those looking to be inspired and informed when it comes to all things fashion, beauty, and celebrity for nearly three decades,” Holmes said in a statement. “I’m so excited to join the InStyle team and to lead this beloved brand into its next chapter.”

For the last three years, Holmes served as editor in chief of Marie Claire after being promoted from the role of digital director. Before then, Holmes served as executive editor at Elle.com.

Born and raised in New York City, Holmes went to Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and went on to intern at Vanity Fair before landing her first editor position at The Cut.

Holmes will report to Leah Wyar, the president of entertainment and beauty and style at Dotdash Meredith.

“Bringing renewed energy and a fresh approach, she is the perfect person to lead this iconic brand and build on its legacy as we look to the future,” Wyar said of Holmes in a statement. “Not only is she a sharp, inspiring journalist who is highly respected in the fashion world, she has a proven track record of success growing digital media brands and creating award-winning editorial content in areas of style, beauty and culture.”
