Playful Suiting and Short-Shorts Stole the Show at the Teen Choice Awards

Now in its 21st year, we know what red carpet trends to expect from the under-18 set invited to the Teen Choice Awards: short hemlines for the ladies and easygoing button-downs for the guys. Couture confections and frothy ball gowns are reserved for the stuffy awards shows that clog up our Sunday evenings in January and February, so they’re rarely present at this end-of-summer event. Instead, we’re always treated to a bit of sartorial fun in the form of sparkly mini dresses, summery florals and graphic ensembles — all things a cool teen could presumably wear to prom or a homecoming dance.

Taylor Swift arrived in a complete Versace look, consisting of high-waisted printed shorts, a matching deep V-neck top and a blazer, leading the pack of the night’s well-suited women. Former “Dance Mom” star Maddie Zeigler followed in a baby blue Chanel pantsuit, which she accessorized with a tiny Chanel bag and costume jewelry. The men also had fun with suits: “Riverdale” actor KJ Apa kept his look polished, yet casual, in a loose-fitted Marni suit, ribbed tank and sneakers; John Stamos, better known as Uncle Jessie, opted for a crisp white suit and a multi-colored graphic T-shirt.

Keeping up with the lax dress code, Zendaya chose a Jacquemus bright yellow checkered collared top with extremely short army green shorts and white Le Silla pointy heels. Meanwhile, Netflix heartthrob Noah Centineo wore a laid-back flannel and ripped jeans.
