Another one bites the dust: On Wednesday evening, Helmut Lang announced that its creative director Peter Do is stepping down.

“I want to express my gratitude to my Helmut Lang team, who have been integral in supporting my vision. It’s been an incredible journey to be tasked to carry on the legacy of Helmut Lang. I would like to give special thanks to Kazumi for this opportunity of a lifetime and an experience that I will never forget,” Do said in a statement.

Do will present his last collection with the brand for pre-fall 2025. A successor has not been named.

Kazumi Yanai, the chairman of Helmut Lang, said of Do: “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Peter for his exceptional creative leadership and vision and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”

The 2014 LVMH Graduate Prize winner joined Helmut Lang last May, with the aim of revitalizing the sleepy label. He was tasked with reinforcing “the brand’s reputation for pushing boundaries while honoring its minimalist roots,” per the press release. Much anticipation surrounded his debut Spring 2024 collection for the brand, but it was ultimately met with mixed reviews. This September, the brand opted to sit out New York Fashion Week and not show its Spring 2025 collection.

Prior to Do’s appointment, he held stints at Céline and Derek Lam before launching his eponymous label in 2018. While Do has yet to announce his next steps, he continues to oversee his own brand.

Helmut Lang joins a growing roster of houses without a designer: Chanel, Dries Van Noten, Y/Project, Fendi and, most recently, 3.1 Phillip Lim.
