Brazil’s annual celebration of Carnival — a week-long cultural event globally known for its major parades, elaborately bejeweled ensembles and larger-than-life headpieces — returns in just under a month, but PatBo is starting the festivities early with its glittering Fall 2025 collection.
“[Carnival] is part of our culture, it’s something that we celebrate and it’s still alive in our culture,” Creative Director Patricia Bonaldi told Fashionista ahead of the label’s Fall 2025 presentation on Sunday. “So I thought it was a good opportunity to talk about this, to translate this into clothes. We brought all the elements, the shining, the crystals, but in a very elevated way, so it’s not like [a] caricature. […] I think we brought all this atmosphere of Carnival to a more couture vibe.”
PatBo is no stranger to intricately beaded creations and eye-catching silhouettes (see: the brand’s Spring 2025 collection of sparkling butterfly motifs), and Bonaldi’s penchant for a dazzling aesthetic continues into the new line through the use of pale pink feathers, beaded accents and crystals upon crystals. Each design captures the exuberance of Carnival, including a flowing pink feather-trim dress with a triangular crystal bust and a glimmering white halter-neck gown, complete with a navel cut-out.
Bonaldi also partnered with Brazilian jewelry designer Eduardo Caires to create hand-crafted, sculptural accessories for PatBo’s Carnival Gala collection, such as a silver crystal necklace, a pink-and-red gradient headpiece mirroring the fluidity of feathers and a shimmering headpiece with rows of crystals framing the wearer’s face.
“I think it’s a good time to talk about local cultures, so I’m not afraid to tell where I’m from and not afraid to show the beauty of my culture,” Bonaldi said. “I think it’s a good moment to reinforce who we are.”
