Vogue releases Karl Lagerfeld cover ahead of the 2023 Met Gala
Leading up to the 2023 Met Gala, where this year’s theme is “In Honor of Karl,” Vogue has released a special cover honoring Karl Lagerfeld and his long career. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the cover stars 10 of Lagerfeld’s favorite models — Anok Yai, Shalom Harlow, Kendall Jenner, Liu Wen, Adut Akech, Natalia Vodianova, Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta, Gigi Hadid, and Devon Aoki — who pose at Paris’s Grand Palais. Plus, showing how loved Lagerfeld was by an entire generation of creatives, 10 leading designers reinterpreted Lagerfeld’s visionary works into new designs. {Vogue/paywalled}

Rina Sawayama covers Allure April 2023
From model to musician to, now, actor, Rina Sawayama isn’t afraid to artistically express herself through various avenues. For Allure, Sawayama spoke to Arabelle Sicardi about Asian representation in Hollywood, fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in Japan, being stereotyped in modeling, and her experience acting in “John Wick: Chapter 4.” When asked about her debut acting role, Sawayama said, “I feel fortunate that I was given such a mysterious character. She has her own life, she has depth. When I was little, watching Asians onscreen meant ‘Memoirs of a Geisha.’ In hindsight, I recognize that it was an exploitative movie. But we only had moments like that. And now, we’re in a great time for storytelling.” {Allure}

Hotels enter the beauty retail game
Hotels have taken great strides to up the visitor experience with new and more luxurious in-room amenities. The latest upgrade? Beauty minibars. Equinox Hotel and the Soho House are among those offering a one-stop shop for guests to try out luxurious beauty and wellness items. Some hotels offer products for purchase in-room, while others are reimagining the spa experience. Instead of the traditional massage, guests will receive a complete wellness experience — a full package including massage and facials — in which the guests will then have the opportunity to shop the products they just tried out. Brands such as Repêchage, Skin Authority and Philosykos have seen increased revenue from these types of arrangements. {Glossy/paywalled}
