These are the stories making headlines in fashion on Wednesday.

Fashion’s “fake news epidemic”
It’s been a year of designer musical chairs, with Peter Hawkings‘s recent exit from Tom Ford leaving another house devoid of a creative director. And speculation has grown rampant around where designers like Sarah BurtonJohn Galliano, Hedi SlimanePierpaolo Piccioli and others may be headed. For The New York Times, Vanessa Friedman argues against this unfounded gossip, writing that it “is often rooted in nothing more than whispers and wishful thinking — or the product of strategically deployed leaks used as a tactic in a contract negotiation. And it is, in the end, good for no one.” {The New York Times

LVMH revenue slips in first half of 2024
The luxury group saw a revenue decline of 1% on a reported basis (but 2% organic growth) in the first half of 2024. Fashion and Leather Goods sales, specifically, declined by 2%, due largely to exchange rate fluctuations, according to the company. Still, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior “maintained an exceptional level of profitability.” Per Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, these results “reflect LVMH’s remarkable resilience, backed by the strength of its Maisons and the responsiveness of its teams in a climate of economic and geopolitical uncertainty.”  {LVMH}
