U.S. lawmaker demands answers from Loro Piana over “exploitation” in Peru
U.S. Congressman Robert Garcia called upon LVMH-owned Loro Piana to answer for alleged “exploitation” of Indigenous workers of the Peruvian Andes, who shear vicuñas to make the luxury fashion brand’s $9,000 sweaters. Garcia sent a letter on Friday to Loro Piana Chairman Antoine Arnault and CEO Damien Bertrand demanding the company send written responses to Congress by the end of April. “Despite the success of Loro Piana, the Indigenous people of this region remain deeply impoverished,” Garcia wrote in the letter. “This is little evidence the benefits of the return of vicuñas population has trickled down to those it should be benefiting most.” {Bloomberg}
