Taylor Swift collaborates with Stella McCartney on clothing line for new album
Taylor Swift is collaborating with Stella McCartney on a clothing line to accompany the release of her new album, “Lover,” out Aug. 23. “She’s been a friend for a really long time, and also just a woman I respect so much,” Swift said of McCartney during an Instagram Live on Thursday announcing the partnership. “I respect what she creates, how she creates it. The role of a fashion designer is dramatically evolving
In 2019, “designers don’t just design clothes — they must be politicians, environmental activists, cultural anthropologists, and curators of endless collaborations and archives,” writes Osman Ahmed for I-D. “Fashion has reached political fever-pitch and designers are faced with a tougher challenge than just creating grand sets and securing celebrity endorsements to remain relevant.” Now, it’s becoming increasingly important for them to make clothes for the new generation of shoppers who care about the land and the laws and people who govern it. {I-D

Why resellers are turning to closet sales
Popular resale sites are turning to closet sales, which involve recruiting an influential celebrity or fashion icon to sell products from their personal collection, as a way to keep up with competitors and draw in customers with flashy new product, while hopefully keeping them around. “With closet sales, it’s an intimate look into people’s wardrobes,” says Arun Gupta, CEO of Grailed. “You see them on Instagram or the red carpet, and it’s all very curated. But when you get these closet sales, you get a peek behind the curtain and it’s a lot more intimate. That starts a conversation and plays into our brand message.” {Glossy

Pitti Uomo and Milan Fashion Week Men’s work very well together
The men’s fashion calendar makes two stops in Italy: one in Florence and the other in Milan. And while Milan Fashion Week Men‘s has shrunk in days and number of shows from years past, observers are still trumpeting its central role, especially pivoting around Pitti Uomo. “Between Florence and Milan, it’s the most beautiful fashion week in the world,” says Italian designer Brunello Cucinelli to WWD. “Pitti Uomo is an open-air fashion show, with 30,000 people walking around in a continuous exchange of ideas and it’s complementary to the big-name fashion shows in Milan, whose nature it is to hold such shows.” {WWD
