Meghan Markle Wore a Thing: Re-Worn Red Carolina Herrera Gown Edition

Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world’s eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We’ll be following the Meghan Markle Effect with our column, “Meghan Markle Wore a Thing.”

In a world where fashion is seen as disposable and celebrities rarely wear the same thing twice, being an outfit repeater is a particularly admirable quality. So when we see the likes of Meghan Markle rewearing a look she’s donned publicly before, we have to applaud. On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex re-wore a gown she’s appeared in for past events while in attendance at the 2024 Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala, which honored its patients and pediatric workers.

For the event, she chose a red Carolina Herrera gown from the label’s Pre-Fall 2022 collection, featuring a plunging halter-neckline, column silhouette and center slit. She wore minimal accessories, opting for a bare décolletage, a thin gold bracelet and red suede Aquazurra sandals (now sold out).

Her outfit may look familiar to anyone devoutly following Markle’s fashion journey: She also sported the dress back in November 2021, in attendance at the Intrepid Museum’s Salute To Freedom Gala. The first time around, she wore it with a long train attached and red pointed pumps.

By giving a second life to this Carolina Herrera number, she channels noted outfit repeater Lizze McGuire and champions the notion that there’s no shame in re-wearing an outfit to a function, even as a celebrity. Now we want to know what she’ll (re)pull from her closet next.
