Jil Sander’s creative directors Lucie and Luke Meier sang their swan song at the brand’s Fall 2025 show, which took place Tuesday during Milan Fashion Week. The brand announced Wednesday that the husband-and-wife duo is exiting the label, effective immediately. According to a press release, the brand and designers “mutually decided that this collection would be the last of their collaboration.”
“Luke and I are touched to have presented our last collection for Jil Sander after 8 years with the house,” Lucie posted on Instagram. “We want to thank everyone who has been involved and contributed their skill, creativity and energy. We are so proud of all we have achieved together, and even more proud of the wonderful friendships we have made.”
The Meiers joined Jil Sander in 2017, and have spent the past eight years proposing fresh and experimental forms of minimalism. Business-wise, their design direction has proved successful, as the OTB Group-owned brand reported a 17.3% growth in 2023.
Their final collection was called “a bright metaphor of love,” per the show notes. “Lucie and Luke Meier have envisioned a collection, and a staging, that turns darkness — the hues that seem to soak our times — into light, into the brilliance they invite us to capture.”
Prior to their Jil Sander appointment, Luke worked as a design director at Supreme and later co-founded OAMC — though, he exited the label in June 2024 — while Lucie worked at Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga, and was an interim creative director at Dior after Raf Simons.
Their departure comes amid additional news and restructuring at the Italian-based House: Last year, it opened a 1,000-square-metre flagship in Ginza, Tokyo and launched a high jewelry line. Already in 2025, it launched its first fragrance in partnership with Coty, and welcomed former Fendi CEO Serge Brunschwig as the new CEO of Jil Sander and Chief Strategy Officer of OTB Group.
As for the Meiers’ successor(s), no one’s officially been named, but the brand has a couple of rumored contenders, including Bally’s Simone Bellotti and Burberry’s Daniel Lee. But until a new creative director is announced, Jil Sander joins a growing roster of houses without a designer, including Gucci, Helmut Lang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Fendi, Dior Homme and Proenza Schouler.
