It’s shaping up to be a year of yeehaw. In music alone, Beyoncé‘s readying to release a country-centric “Act II,” Kacey Musgraves is set to drop a new album and Bad Bunny’s “Most Wanted” tour incorporates cowboy-on-the-run motifs throughout the visuals. The fashion world is aligned: Pharrell‘s Fall 2024 menswear collection for Louis Vuitton, which walked the runway in January, is inspired by the Wild West; same with Dapper Dan’s latest for Gap, which dropped earlier this month. Now, Isabel Marant appears to be endorsing the look — with a French twist, bien sûr.
Marant’s Fall 2024 collection is heavy on the fringe, one of the most utilized sartorial signifiers of the western aesthetic. It’s used to line the hems of long coats, leather trousers and skirts; to adorn leather boots and suede handbags; to add dimension to jackets, vests and scarves. The color palette also feels reminiscent of western imagery, with its mossy greens, greys and various shades of brown, plus an occasional pop of fiery red.
As always, the brand designs with a metropolitan woman in mind, so the looks are comprised of versatile layers that can be combined in a variety of different ways — sweaters that work as well with leather trousers as they do with mini skirts or over party dresses, leather jackets that are amenable to both day and nighttime wear, animal prints that can basically be considered neutrals, pants with plenty of pockets.
