There’s been a lot of talk lately about how most sweaters nowadays are straight-up garbage. We seem to be living in an age of low-quality knitwear that’s thin, annoyingly sheer and prone to pilling and shedding. I know I’m not alone in longing for the days when Billy Crystal crouched down in his cableknit fisherman pullover to figure out which way the rug had to go or Rory Gilmore donned her “muumuu” sweater. So when I came across a classic cardigan that actually seemed to have some weight, plushness and longevity to it, I definitely took notice.
The Vitow Cardigan from American Vintage is a slightly oversized, slouchy sweater that comes in six colors, including electric pink, dusty periwinkle, creamy white and heather gray. (I honestly had a hard time picking just one, but it’s hard to argue with the versatility of the white and gray ones.)
Made from a blend of alpaca and wool, with just a hint of stretch, it’s the perfect versatile layering piece to sling over your shoulders or pair with a dress or jeans. It’s warm, but not too heavy, and it’s slightly fuzzy, but not itchy. This just in: Quality knitwear can exist in 2024!
