“In university, I was very unclear about what I wanted to do,” marketing expert Haein Dorin told Brooke Frischer on The Fashionista Network. (Watch it here!) “[My career] was definitely a non-conformist path.”
It was by luck that Dorin’s first internship was communications and media-based, and she fell in love with it. From that point on, the writing was on the wall for her inevitable path into marketing: While in college, she landed five internships — all in publicity — followed by three temporary jobs before landing her first full-time gig.
While working as a temporary assistant at Condé Nast, she caught the attention of the Corporate Partnerships Director, who later hired Dorin for her first role as a Digital Associate.
“I had to pull all of the analytics and reporting of how all of the corporate partnership deals were — so how many impressions clicks, putting together massive Excel documents and I learned how to analyze digital data media plans,” she reflected. An involved and data-driven role, it was a crucial foundation for her future career footprint.
From there, Dorin steadily climbed the corporate ranks, working as a marketer at Pandora, GQ‘s director of brand marketing, and later, Highsnobiety‘s general manager of client services. In the full interview, she discussed her time at GQ and her favorite moments at the publication.
In 2023, she joined Ssense, which she’s called “a test of everything [she’s] done so far.” While the platform started as a simple e-commerce site, it has expanded into an editorial and cultural hub with distinct storytelling and aesthetics. As the company’s global head of marketing, she’s enjoyed spearheading programs and initiatives that bring together digital marketing, influencer marketing and product curation.
“We’re very fun and intentional in terms of how we bring these ideas and stories to life, and we’re constantly ideating,” she said of Ssense. “We’re really thinking about new and exciting ways where we can be in-person with our audience and storytell different types of communities and cultures that are relevant in fashion today.”
As Dorin reflected on her over a decade of experience, she left the audience with words of wisdom: “When you’re given a task, you always ask yourself, ‘How will this task translate to my career?’ That’s advice I will always take to heart. Even if it might not seem like that specific task is very relevant, building well-rounded skill sets is going to be what makes you successful.”
