Growing up, where most teenagers spent their downtime reading comics or playing video games, Dr. Dennis Gross read Scientific American magazine. It’s safe to say that, while he didn’t plan to become a dermatologist, the signs were always there.

“My journey was really organic [because] I was a big science person,” Dr. Gross told Catie Pusateri on The Fashionista Network. (Watch it here!) “I cold-called this person who wrote an article on immunology, which was really just booming at the time. And this person happened to be the president of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute, which is a major medical center in New York City.”

That persistence led to a research assistant opportunity, which sparked his interest in attending medical school. Eventually, he decided to pursue a career in dermatology.

In 2000, Dr. Gross co-founded his eponymous skin-care line, now recognized for its clinically proven, science-backed products that deliver targeted treatments. In the full interview, he explained how the brand filled a major gap in the market and shared the story behind the development of its bestselling Alpha Beta Daily Peel

He also talked about his New York City-based practice, common skin-care concerns his patients face, why he doesn’t chase trends and where the future of skin care is heading.
