Although Spring 2025 runways featured their fair share of unlikely trends (defective clothing, anyone?), the catwalks were sprinkled with familiar pieces as well, specifically one classic style that’s primed for a resurgence: Long-sleeve henley tops were one of fashion week‘s most surprisingly average trends — well-timed as we head into layering season.
Henleys began trending in Spring and Fall 2024 shows — both Tom Ford and Gucci displayed fitted knit tops with plunging un-buttoned necklines — and continued into Spring 2025, seen at Erdem and Brandon Maxwell, the latter using several sheer henleys as neutral bases for layering throughout the collection.
To be a true henley, a top can have short or long sleeves, but it must include a collarless, buttoned neckline. The rest, really, is up to your preference. For example, if form-fitting isn’t your thing, just look to oversized options from the likes of Donni or Vuori.
For added warmth, ribbed- or waffle-knit textures will help keep you toasty. Something more lightweight, like a sheer or pointelle knit, not only acts as in ideal bottom layer beneath an itchy sweater (or, may we suggest a non-itchy cashmere sweater under $300?) but will make for a trendy, breathable top come spring as well.
