Great Outfits in Fashion History: Taylor Swift in Versace at the 2016 Grammys

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

As the queen of Easter eggs, writing bridges and reinventing herself, Taylor Swift knows how to curate her aesthetic to whichever era she’s currently in, and her style evolution offers a glimpse into the inner workings of her mind. While the singer-songwriter is currently in her “Midnights” era, which oozes glitz and glamour, let’s take a trip back to 2016 — or “1989”.

For the Grammy Awards that year, Swift stepped out in a bright Versace two-piece, featuring an orange bandeau top and a full hot pink skirt. Two-pieces were a staple of hers during this era, but this look took the style a step further, making it red-carpet-ready with a voluminous skirt and peek-a-boo leg slit. But let’s talk about the real star of this outfit: the bob. Swift’s hair has also seen its fair share of reinvention (hello, Bleachella), but this blunt cut is one of her best — paired with her signature red lipstick, it’s simultaneously sophisticated and youthful.

For anyone who wants to feel their own pop star fantasy, now’s your chance with our picks, below.
