Great Outfits in Fashion History: Kate Moss Carrying a Huge Birkin (and Lila Moss) in 2003

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

It’s hard to choose where to begin with this 2003 time capsule of a paparazzi photo, taken in London’s Notting Hill neighborhood: how it perfectly encapsulates Kate Moss‘s transition from ’90s minimalism to mid-2000s boho-chic (with a hint of indie sleaze perhaps?); or how she looks like the literal coolest mom of all time carrying her adorable (literal) nepo baby Lila Grace Moss, who would go on to follow in her mum’s footsteps; or how her hair is doing the quintessential undone blonde cool-girl thing; or how she was more than likely using that giant white Hermès Birkin as a diaper bag.

All of the above make this one for the history books, although it also serves as inspiration for the warm, sunny weather I know we’re all currently desperate for. A simple black tank, flirty mini skirt-esque shorts and black sandals make for an ideal no-brainer mid-summer outfit. Shop a few options now, below.
