There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

Is this a safe space? Confession time: I’ve never seen “Pretty Woman” (or “Notting Hill,” but that’s a discussion for another time). You can now understand why my introduction to Julia Roberts wasn’t from her ’90s films like most — it was through my obsession with scrolling through “Best Dressed” lists.

We all have a top Roberts ’90s sartorial moment that lives in our heads rent-free. I’d bet my non-existent life savings that the first image to come to mind is her iconic oversized Giorgio Armani suit at the 1990 Golden Globes. It’s certainly at the forefront of my brain when I think of Roberts’ red-carpet history.

But if I were to point to honorary mentions, the actor’s appearance at the 1991 Oscars deserves its flowers. For the occasion, while she opted against a suit, she couldn’t help but reach for something tailored, wearing a structured evening dress by Richard Tyler. The full-length number was a feminine take on a man’s tailcoat, featuring a funnel neckline, subtle power shoulders, loop-and-button front closures and high side slits with silk chiffon under panels.

Her hair was the true star of the show, though: a bright blonde “bixie” cut — a bob and pixie combo — in lieu of her signature long, auburn curls.

Ahead of the 2025 Oscars this Sunday, keep scrolling to shop our picks to recreate Roberts ’90s look.
