There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
After releasing her self-titled fifth studio album in 1993, Janet Jackson was out and about non-stop, attending countless high-profile award shows, going on world tours and stunning in look after glamorous designer look. That’s likely why when she attended the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards (toward the end of the promotional agenda for the aforementioned album), the performer kept it cute and casual in a simple pair of denim overalls.

Wearing the non-traditional red carpet look, Jackson walked away that night with three awards: Female Video, Dance Video and Choreography.
Accessorized with a trucker hat, a long-sleeve black top and black platform boots, the look is a timeless approach to everyday dressing, and one that only someone as cool and legendary as Jackson could get away with wearing to an awards show.
