There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

When it comes to red-carpet fashion, you can always count on Issa Rae to keep you on your toes. The actor and screenwriter has never played it safe with her looks. She’s someone who’s quick to welcome and play with colors, textures and prints.

Her bold ensemble at the 2017 BET Awards proves just that: She stunned the crowd in a bright striped Balmain blazer-and-shorts combo, straight from the brand’s Resort 2017 collection. The look, while simple in silhouette, stills grabs your attention with its bold pattern, deep-V neckline and flirty styling.

The beauty look was equally as captivating. Embracing protective styles, Rae paired her ‘fit with a jumbo braid, complemented by two smaller cornrows that fall beside each ear. Matching the colorfully striped blazer, her makeup was a masterful take on color blocking: shimmery gold eyeshadow atop the eyelids, blue eyeliner beneath the waterline and magenta-pink lipstick swept across the lips.
