There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In ‘Great Outfits in Fashion History,’ Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
Though we’re weeks away from most end-of-year festivities, I’ve already started planning my winter wardrobe for the holiday season’s stacked social calendar. Given that there’s only so many tartan-forward ‘fits I can sport, I’ve turned to the ’90s supermodel supreme Claudia Schiffer for some sartorial wisdom. Sure, her bundled-up “Love Actually” cameo offers plenty of cold-weather inspiration, but it’s Schiffer’s appearance at the Valentino: Thirty Years of Magic Gala in 1992 delivers a masterclass in holiday dressing.
While attending the star-studded New York City event honoring Valentino Garavani‘s glamorous designs, Schiffer donned a black floor-length gown plucked straight from the maison’s Haute Couture Fall 1992 runway in Paris. With a statement fur collar cascading into an open back, sheer black sleeves and a bow-adorned bustier, Schiffer’s dress has earned a prominent spot on my holiday mood board.

Though the OG runway look included eye-catching silver drop earrings and a bejeweled veil, Schiffer kept her accessories to a minimum with only a single gold chain bracelet. However, her beauty look stole the show: Her hair was pulled into a voluminous, Pamela Anderson-esque up-do, while she went with a sultry ’90s smoky eye, nude lip and bronzed cheeks for makeup.
