The French fashion house will be the special guest of the trade show on June 12 in Florence.
After marking her return to Paris menswear with a well-received, 17-look presentation in January, Givenchy‘s Artistic Director Clare Waight Keller is scheduled to stage her first stand-alone men’s show as the special guest at the Pitti Uomo trade show on June 12 in Florence.
Waight Keller told WWD that Pitti — which runs from June 11 to June 14 — doesn’t have the same set of parameters that Paris Fashion Week does, allowing the opportunity for a much broader collection. “January was almost like the first chapter in the book. It was sort of setting up my framework of what I want to do,” Waight Keller said. “Pitti is the opportunity to take that step into a much broader collection, and that’s a big opportunity for me to really express what I want to do, and also just my more rounded vision of what I want for the Givenchy man.”
Waight Keller, who last visited the trade show about a decade ago while she was the creative director of Pringle of Scotland, is looking to continue her January efforts to strike a balance between tailoring and sportswear for the upcoming June collection. “It’s not only about pure casual wear and I think the way to explore that, and the style and attitude behind that, are really what I’m going to put into my June collection,” Waight Keller explained.
Chief Executive Officer of Givenchy Philippe Fortunato told WWD that both genders are equally important for the brand, and Givenchy has worked over the last two years — since Waight Keller took over in 2017 — to emphasize that across all categories. “We aspire to offer both men and women the opportunity to create full looks for themselves within the collection, or even shop in one another’s territory — that’s very common at Givenchy,” Fortunato said.
