Fashionista's September Shopping List: 29 Items Our Editors Love

As Fashion Month continues and fall weather approaches, we’ve had a lot of fashion living rent free in our minds (and on our Pinterest boards) this month. From new styling tricks to must-have accessories, team Fashionista is heading into a new season with the pieces that snagged our attention during fashion’s busiest month.

We’re building out our basics wardrobes for season-long styling, including a classic boxy white tee, an oversized pullover, wide-leg medium-wash denim and versatile forest-green track pants. Out of all the accessories that caught our eyes this month (including a golden scarab ring and a baby pink beaded phone strap), purses were the true standout: We’ve been toting a chocolate brown suede hobo bag, a mini crescent shoulder bag and a dad-core slouchy sling bag all month long.

See (and shop!) all of our September fashion finds, below.

GU Heavy Weight Sweat Half-Zip Pullover, $40, available here: “I’m just obsessed with this unisex sweatshirt from Uniqlo sister brand GU: the perfect heavy weight (as the name implies), the perfect oversized fit and the perfect dark green color. (I think I need it in dark gray, too.)” —Dhani Mau, Editor in Chief

Wrangler + Staud The Must Jean in Earth, $195, available here: “I’ve never before considered that I might need a pair of chocolate-brown jeans, but then I saw this pair, made in collaboration between Wrangler and Staud, and I absolutely want to make them my fall staple. In addition to the easy boot cut, I also love the detail of the belt loops at the hip spelling out the name ‘Staud’ — so fun.” —Stephanie Saltzman, Beauty Director

Heat Healer Activated Lymphatic Onesie, $200 $170, available here: “Ever heard of a wearable lymphatic massage? Well, that’s what this is: a full bodysuit with specific dimensions and zig-zag patterning that creates light pressure at your lymph points. The idea is, while you wear it, that pressure-pattern gently rubs your lymphatic system (if you’ve gotten a lymph massage, you know it’s very gentle taps), which helps with lymphatic drainage as you move, and its infrared yarn regulates body temperature and also enhances local circulation. This cute little outfit has definitely improved my energy and productivity while working from home, mostly as a nice upgrade from my usual sleepy sweatpants.” —Savannah Sitton, Contributing Market Editor

Versace Logo-Plaque Oval Frame Sunglasses, $463 $388, available here: “One of my favorite things to do is try on sunglasses, but sometimes, as someone who prefers a vivid pop of color, it’s tough to find something that stands out amongst the neutral black and tortoiseshell styles. On a trip to Sunglass Hut, I spotted this glittery metallic pair from Versace. Not only are they sparkly on their own, but they also brightened up my face and made me feel like a high-fashion Barbie.” —Brooke Frischer, Staff Writer and Social Lead

Puma Speedcat OG Women’s Sneaker, $100, available here: “I am unapologetically one of those people whose closet is overrun with black and white sneakers. It would be an understatement to say that me willingly wearing bright-red kicks is a huge deal. Beyond the vibrant color — that surprisingly complements many of my everyday ‘fits — I’m particularly fond of the soft suede fabrication and sporty silhouette. It also has an extremely cushiony insole. While it’s technically not advertised as a walking shoe, I can’t help but slip these on when I go for my daily strolls.” —Janelle Sessoms, Staff Writer

Edwin Manhattan Wide Leg Jeans, $204, available here: “Ever since the ’70s infiltrated my wardrobe last year, I’ve been on a flare- and wide-leg jeans kick. This high-rise pair has quickly become my new go-to thanks to its vintage-inspired front and back pockets, styling versatility and wide-leg silhouette. For the full ’70s fantasy, these look best with a statement buckle belt and pointed-toe leather boots.” —Catie Pusateri, Contributing Writer

Quince Italian Leather Mini Crescent Shoulder Bag, $90, available here: “I bought this bag out of necessity (my last one literally fell apart) about a month ago and it’s become my go-to for quick errands and outings where I don’t need more than my wallet and keys. I love how the gold details tie it into my mostly-gold jewelry. Plus, it’s only $90.” —Emma Greene, Editorial Intern

Cos Knitted Vest, $99, available here: “I love how this vest is technically a knit, making it soft and easy to wear, but has a tailored shape to it. The ivory hue looks great with dark-denim jeans.” —Dhani

Abercrombie & Fitch Pull-On Track Pant in Deep Green, $80, available here: “I’m really trying to build out my pants wardrobe this fall — and maybe even expand outside the denim universe — so these relaxed track pants are at the top of my current shopping list. The deep, forest-green colorway, white piping detail and slits at the ankle are all super appealing, and I love the idea of styling them with tailored, non-sport pieces, like a button-down and ballet flats.” —Steph

Catori Life Scarab Ring, $72, available here: “Recently, I’ve found myself deeply attracted to motifs of insects (admittedly odd for a bug fearer), and this scarab beetle really spoke to me. Curious as to why, I discovered after a bit of research that scarabs have long been symbols of protection, transformation, rebirth and personal evolution (very fitting during Virgo season, when we find ourselves starting new chapters — just me?). Wearing it serves as a beautifully crafted reminder of hope and growth.” —Savannah

Levi’s Belted Dolman Trucker Jacket, $108, available here: “I opted to size up in this jacket to give the look a more structured style, and it’s been my saving grace this entire month. I especially love how the dark wash and belted silhouette make the piece feel a bit more formal. It’s also been the perfect transitional outerwear — it’s not too heavy for those random 85-degree days, but also gives just enough coverage for that incoming fall breeze.” —Brooke

Minor History The Crosstown Sling Bag, $178, available here: “I’m channeling full-on dad-core for this fall (but still chic). This slouchy sling bag felt like the perfect design to carry out the vision: It comes with multiple pockets, is adjustable and can fit my obnoxiously large wallet.” —Janelle

Meshki Posie Suiting Belted Mini Dress, $115, available here: “With its boat neckline and A-line skirt, this mini dress could’ve been plucked straight from Rachel Green’s closet. As a fan of all things ’90s minimalism, I love the chic silhouette of the sheer paneling paired with the belted detailing around the hip. Cue ‘Little Black Dress’ by One Direction.” —Catie

Aritzia The ’90s Ricci Denim Skirt, $88, available here: “I added this denim mini to my rotation a couple of months ago now and I’ve gotten wayyyy more use out of it than I anticipated. I’m excited to wear it into the fall with chunky sweaters and maybe even tights if I want to embrace my elementary-school style.” —Emma

Our Legacy Brown Miniature Scarf, $85, available here: “I love the idea of a mini scarf for fall- much easier to tie; plus, it doesn’t get that cold in L.A. I’m very into the brown color and fuzzy alpaca texture.” —Dhani

Shona Joy Savanna Halter Open Back Maxi Dress in Black, $395, available here: “With a body-skimming bodice, open back and interesting buckled strap detail, this is pretty much the ideal dress for a black tie fall wedding or formal event. I’d wear it without any jewelry to let the hardware really shine — but maybe throw on some fun, colorful shoes instead.” —Steph

Little Liffner Pillow Hobo Suede Bag, $695, available here: “Having long admired the brand, I finally got my first Little Liffner bag this month and, to no one’s surprise, she’s utterly flawless: the spacious pillow silhouette makes it the perfect slouchy shape that’s comfortingly roomy (I can stuff in my laptop, Hydro Flask and all my other usual purse belongings with no problem). I simply can’t get enough neutral suede this season and the supple cappuccino material is nothing short of stunning. I wanted the bag as soon as I saw a fellow editor carrying it through fashion week, but I’m glad I waited for the gold hardware option to release. It also comes in a burgundy amarone shade that’s equally delicious.” —Savannah

Aperol Tennis Club Tee, $30, available here: “I love watching the U.S. Open every year, so when I’m lucky enough to attend a game in person, I’m always looking for something to commemorate the moment. This year, I found this super cute and subtle merchandise from Aperol. As much as I love all tennis-core, designs with vintage elements are my favorite. I also love the off-white and washed look of the shirt — it’s wearable even in the off-season and is a perfect tee to throw on with a pair of jeans.” —Brooke

Sonos Ace Headphones, $449, available here: “After a long run, my six-year-old headphones finally gave out, so when Sonos gifted me these sleek headphones, it couldn’t have come at a better time. The crisp sound quality is the best I’ve ever experienced, and the noise-canceling feature comes in extra handy while riding the subway. It also has an impressive battery life of 30 hours, meaning I can go days before needing to recharge them.” —Janelle

Rouje Maina Cardigan, $265, available here: “A cozy cardigan is always going to do it for me, and this mohair wool one looks like the chic alternative to swaddling myself in a soft blanket all autumn long. In addition to the pearlescent buttons, I especially love the on-trend sky blue color that separates itself from fall’s typical (but still beloved!) shades of burgundy and forest green.” —Catie

Abercrombie & Fitch Essential Premium Polished Relaxed Tee, $25, available here: “I was in desperate need of some new basic tees and ordered this one a size up on a whim. Lo and behold, my last-minute cart add was a winner. It’s the slouchy tee I’ve been searching for – it looks great with jeans or thrown over a workout set for a quick, laid-back outfit.” —Emma

Anonie Jade Top, $180, available here: “Lucky for those of us with desk jobs, the corporate-core trend has taken hold, and this sleek-yet-sexy top is a perfect case-in-point as to why the studious look has gone so mainstream. I’m impressed with how soft the thick, stretchy black cotton-blend base is in contrast to the starchy accent cuffs and collar that stay in place nicely, making it a really easy top to wear. The sweetheart neckline and elongated cuffs are subtly sultry details that make me drool. I can’t think of a bottom this top wouldn’t look good with — jeans, slacks, a pleated mini skirt? — but I’m envisioning capris and a blazer.” —Savannah

Dunst Beige Drawstring Lounge Pants, $135 $55, available here: “It’s officially sweatpants season and I finally found some on sale in a neutral I don’t already have: “oatmeal melange.” I don’t usually go for logos, but when it’s just the first letter of my name, I can’t resist.” —Dhani

Sloppy Seconds The Trench Mini Skirt, $300, available here: “I spotted Maddie West, the designer behind Sloppy Seconds, and her designs at the Hampton Vintage market over the summer and instantly became obsessed. West sources vintage trench coats, dress shirts and more and breathes new life into them by making two-piece cropped trench sets, ruched blouses and more. I wore a custom khaki set for Fashion Week and got endless compliments on it. Now, I have my eyes on this silver trench skirt — not only for the low-impact way in which which it was made, but also its adorable bubble hem and metallic fabric.” —Brooke

Ahnu Sequence Sneaker, $225, available here: “From creative minds behind Ugg and Hoka, this new sneaker brand supposedly uses high-performance technology for a better run. I took these bad boys for a five mile jog fresh out of the box, and they made the entire trip more comfortable than my go-to, broken-in sneakers — I actually totally forgot they were brand new. The thick foam sole gives extra bounce, yet the shoe is deceivingly lightweight.” —Savannah

Melie Bianco Willow Red Recycled Vegan Shoulder Bag, $140, available here: “What I love most about this shoulder bag is that it immediately addresses one of my biggest purse pet peeves: It has a long enough strap to fit comfortably around my shoulder without falling off. The cherry red color and subtle asymmetrical design are also nice added touches that have me excited to flaunt this around the city this fall.” —Janelle

Tanya Farah Suffragette ‘Votes For Women’ Gold Coin Charm, $3,000, available here: “It’s been great to watch designers promoting voting during the election cycle, and one of my favorites has been this stunning coin pendant made as an homage to all the women that worked tirelessly before us for women’s rights. Although way out of my price range, it’s an investment piece I’d wear forever, especially as a charming souvenir for when we elect our first female president this year (fingers crossed). Even better, 25% of sales of this collection are donated to The New York Women’s Foundation.” —Savannah

String Ting The Princess Wristlet Phone Strap, $48, available here: “I’ve been eyeing a wristlet strap for my phone for ages now, mostly to avoid dropping it and ending up with a broken device. This style caught my eye because of its faux pearls and bow beads, plus the super cute baby-pink color scheme. And, you guessed it, since attaching this, I haven’t dropped my phone once.” —Brooke

Patricia Nash Designs Tasseled Leopard Throw Pillows, $89, available here: “My personal style has always been pro-leopard, but the timeless print is extra trendy at the moment, convincing me to incorporate the neutral into my home decor and, thanks to Patricia Nash (who also makes handbags), these throw pillows did just the trick, without making my wallet hurt. Made of velvety faux suede in cheetah print with tasseled corners, everything about these throw pillows (I got two) feels luxurious and regal. Although the bold print can be quite loud, the colors are muted and look very elevated (aka not cheap) on my sofa and look deceivingly expensive. Love!” —Savannah
