My current favorite lipstick is also beloved by Dua Lipa. And only one of us gets paid to say that (hint: It’s sadly not me).
You know how if you really love a lip product, it makes the transition along with your sunglasses and wallet any time you switch bags? And then it gets used so regularly that it begins to resemble a beat-up version of its former self you’re borderline embarrassed to whip out and use in public? YSL Loveshine Lip Oil Stick is, as the kids say, that girl.
It’s touted by the brand as a “lipstick to oil hybrid,” with the “color of a lipstick” but “slip of an oil.” The bullet is creamy, balm-like and moisturizing — but not in a sticky, goopy gloss kind of way. My personal favorite shade (aka the one I’ve basically abused I use it so often) is 201 Rosewood Blush, a beige-tinged rose that’s a slightly amped-up version of my natural lip tone. It’s the lipstick I’ve found myself reaching for most often, no matter the occasion or time of year.
Serving as a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding during a swampy September storm? Yep. Cozying up with my husband in a New York City piano bar on a freezing January night? Then, too. Mid-day work event I’m trying to look like a semi-together person for? Of course. I’ve worn it through all of these (and many more) occasions, and I don’t see myself quitting any time soon.
I find that the smooth pigment glides on easily, imparting juicy shine and rich color that can be blotted away or layered upon, depending on the desired intensity. It does have a slightly fruity, watermelon-like scent, which I don’t mind; but if you’re fragrance-averse, you may want to steer clear. It’s also absolutely as moisturizing as most lip balms in my stash — a true feat for a lip color this pretty.
