Dhani's New Uniqlo Sweatshirt Has the Ideal Weight and Shape

It’s heavy but soft, boxy but not shapeless.

Uniqlo U Long-Sleeve Sweat Pullover, $29.90, available here.

For the past few days, I’ve been working out of Fashionista’s New York office helping out while Tyler’s off covering the shows in Paris. It’s been lovely, but also a little dangerous: Our HQ is in the heart of the SoHo shopping district, i.e. in a two-block radius of some of my favorite retailers. As was the case when I lived here, I have not been able to resist stopping into Uniqlo after leaving the office, and wound up picking up a few things while doing so on Monday. The highlight was this sweatshirt from the newest Uniqlo U collection.  And while I didn’t necessarily need another sweatshirt, I have no buyer’s remorse.

As with all pieces from the Uniqlo U line, overseen by Christophe Lemaire in Paris, thoughtful attention has been paid to every detail, making for a good, understated wardrobe staple that still feels special and current. My favorite features of this sweatshirt are the weight and feel — there’s a nice, sturdy heaviness to it, but it’s still soft and malleable enough to, say, tuck into a pair of jeans — as well as the cut: It’s just the right amount of boxy and isn’t too long. I also love the ribbed cuffs and crewneck, not to mention the colors: I went with the off-white shade as I’d been wanting a cream sweatshirt for a while, but the other options — a light heathered gray, a washed-out orange, a pale beige, a moss green and black — are also all kind of perfect. All these details have aligned to make this an ideal sweatshirt, especially for the price point.
