I’m trying to start wearing jewelry people can actually see.
I’m a pretty extreme minimalist when it comes to jewelry. For years, I didn’t wear any at all, and only really started wearing earrings in my late 20s. Perhaps because I got used to seeing my ears naked, anything bigger than a tiny hoop looks jarring to me when I put it on. But, I’m starting to expand out of my comfort zone, which now consists only of tiny diamond studs or these baby hoops — basically, stuff you can barely even see.
While killing time in Nolita on a recent visit to New York, I popped into the Mejuri showroom and fell in love with a number of things, including these dome earrings. There’s something comforting about the fact that they stay close to the ear, but the thick dome shape and “croissant” design detail add something special, and make them visible to even the untrained eye. You also can’t beat the price. This is probably the closest I’ll get to the ’80s chunky jewelry trend.
Mejuri Croissant Dôme Earrings, $65, available here.
