Dara Found the Perfect Top to Wear With Her New Capri Pants

Yes, I bought I capris in 2019.

Khaite Dagny Shirred Pleated Cotton-Poplin Top, $468 (from $780), available here.

I recently purchased a pair of capri pants. I’m not in third grade and this isn’t 2003, but it’s become the summer of mom-approved Bermuda shorts, so I thought I’d overachieve in the trend department by going for a knee-covering style. When I first tried them on, they immediately brought me back to my seventh birthday party, which was “Lizzie McGuire”-themed in honor of her big screen debut that month. I wore black capris to the aforementioned party and a white T-shirt with Hillary Duff’s face on it.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t wear this exact outfit in 2019 — “Lizzie McGuire” is getting a reboot after all — but I owe it to myself to look like someone who has a wine fridge (I don’t even have a dishwasher, but a girl can dream!), not someone who forages the freezer for Go-Gurt. So, I’ve been racking my brain trying to find a top that will elevate my capris. Upon scrolling through the “Tops” category on Net-a-Porter, I found The One: a flattering pleated peplum hem spaghetti strap top that has a shirred waist and is cut from a crisp cotton-poplin. The tank also features a tie-fastening keyhole and a very of-the-moment square neck.

Not only would it be the best capri pant companion, but it would also go with every piece of denim I own. The problem with my dream top, however, is that it’s one of Catherine Holstein’s designs for Khaite, so it doesn’t come cheap. (It retails for over $400 — on sale.) Suffice it to say, I’ll be stalking it on The RealReal for the next few months.
