Copenhagen Fashion Week street style is often a harbinger of trends we’ll see across other fashion capitals as the season plays out. So what can we surmise based on the latest outfits coming out of Denmark? Maximalist, colorful, quirky outerwear is the move.
World news has been looking pretty bleak lately, and this is the time of year when the winter blahs tend to strike hard (especially in Copenhagen, where the sun sets by 4pm in January). So it seems CPHFW attendees were in search of the sartorial antidote to all that dreariness — hits of dopamine and comfort, via dressing joyfully and cozily at the same time. Outerwear, of course, defined the trend: We spotted a slew of coats in bright hues, exuberant patterns and bold animal prints, many of them in oversized or geometrically constructed silhouettes.
Other showgoers leaned into playful accessories, like a fried-egg brooch, a mini Chanel bag hanging off a zipper pull or a hat with a “Sex and the City” reference emblazoned on it. We could all really use a touch of whimsy right now, and it’s refreshing to see the sometimes-reserved fashion crowd embracing that with their whole hearts.
