Saks Potts, a Copenhagen-based womenswear label founded by Cathrine Saks and Barbara Potts, is closing its doors in Spring 2025 after a decade in business. The duo — who grew up together in the Danish capital — founded Saks Potts in 2014 when they were 19 and 20 years old, and the independent label quickly garnered attention in the industry for its colorful fur outerwear, nostalgic ’90s inspirations and playful spirit.

“Both being creative people, we have always strived to continuously reinvent ourselves and deliver the unexpected,” the duo shared in a joint post on Instagram on Tuesday. “Now 10 years into our journey, it felt like we could either shake everything up completely or we could turn the page, say a beautiful farewell to our business, at a stage that felt like the highest point, and start a new chapter of our lives.”

Though operating as an independent brand has become increasingly difficult in the current economic climate, Saks Potts isn’t closing due to financial concerns. In fact, the brand shared on Instagram that it has “consistently achieved +25% annual growth” and that 2024 “promises to be the brand’s strongest financial year.”

A longtime star of Copenhagen Fashion Week, Saks Potts is well-known for its statement coats and confident Scandinavian aesthetic loved by celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Lady Gaga and many more. It also earned a spot on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in 2022 and won Denmark’s Wessel & Vett Fashion Prize last year.

For the duo’s next chapter, it doesn’t sound like Potts or Saks are fully walking away from the fashion industry: The brand shared that the founders are “exploring how to leverage their legacy in new career opportunities beyond Saks Potts.”

“We are proud to have created a brand that’s authentic, unconventional, dared to take risks and is a platform for communities to connect and inspire so many amazing people,” the duo said in a statement. “A heartfelt thanks to you, that has been a part of our incredibly inspiring community who followed, supported and inspired us to always deliver the unexpected.”

As for Saks Potts’ final months, the founders said they will be focusing on concluding the sales of their final collection and “taking time to empower themselves for new adventures.”
