Anrealage's Spring 2025 Show Was Very 'Violet! You're Turning Violet!'

On the first day of Paris Fashion Week, designer Kunihiko Morinaga’s Spring 2025 collection for Anrealage offered showgoers quite the spectacle, featuring a technological element reminiscent of Violet Beauregarde in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Three models emerged at the start of the runway show, titled “Wind,” in light pink, blue and purple nylon puff-sleeve blouses and matching bubble-shaped skirts and shorts. Though the looks from the Japanese brand were already eye-catching in their initial appearance, they became even more visually captivating with the help of sewn-in fans blowing air inside the outfits, inflating each garment in a very “Violet! You’re turning violet, Violet!” way. 

If you need any more convincing that the film reference was likely intentional, the models’ makeup featured a speckling of silver over the nose, similar to how Violet’s face begins to turn purple in the 2005 version of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

After the audience saw in-real-time demonstrations of the designs expanding, already-inflated pieces made their way onto the runway, including pink polka dot bombers, wing-adorned cropped motorcycle jackets, dresses with long cylindrical shapes jutting out and more.

Some of the over-the-top, enlarged designs were paired with more standard trousers, making the garments appear slightly more wearable. But when the balloon-like effect was at its fullest, with a consistently large volume throughout the silhouette, the collection felt the most impactful and at its best.
