Origin Story: Hailing from a suburb outside of Atlanta, Amari Carter has always seen fashion as a means of self-discovery. Growing up, she used clothing “as a way to create an alter ego” to “feel sexy and powerful.” That idea is the ultimate inspiration behind Carter’s eponymous label, which she launched in 2018. For Carter, design is more than clothing; it is storytelling. The designer also competed on Season 2 of Netflix’s “Next in Fashion” and works with the Black in Fashion Council.
