In addition to standard benches lining the runway, Acne Studios offered guests a less traditional seating experience for its Fall 2024 show in Paris on Wednesday. Large-scale chairs made from recycled tires served as the centerpiece for the presentation, including some smaller, cushion-like versions of the sculptures, where some attendees sat. Though the art may be a confusing choice at first glance, in an Instagram post, the brand refers to it as a “‘body’ made from this industrial material.”

The structured-yet-malleable rubber material pretty much perfectly paved the way for the collection. A parade of leather made its way down the catwalk — including skin-tight mini and midi dresses with molded-out cups and hips to exaggerate the human body, which look comparable to the sunken dents and curves found on a tire.
That same leather eventually morphs into clothes with a drapey, less static effect, finding its shape through maxi skirts, midi dresses, trousers and more. The leather is intentionally bunched together to look like loose excess hanging over itself, but is in fact solidly structured.
Johnny Johansson, creative director of the brand, also continues the denim experimentation seen in Spring 2024, taking it a step further with trompe-l’œil pieces that could very easily be black-coated denim or optical-illusion leather. Blue jean-looking cuffs and lining lead the eye to believe it is looking at classic denim, but their stiffness and painterly qualities make it tough to decipher the truth — further illustrating the collection’s fashion-as-art ethos.
