March is officially here, which is simultaneously exciting and upsetting. Exciting, because it means spring is basically here. Upsetting, because it clearly doesn’t feel like it outside; it snowed in New York just a few days ago! However, in my experience, adding a new spring coat into the mix is a symbolic way to encourage the seasons (and your wardrobe) to change—and will keep you warm during those weird transitional temperature changes, too.
Spring is an odd season for outerwear, because it doesn’t feel like there should be any outerwear involved, and yet a jacket is needed more often than not. I think of summer dresses and strappy sandals in the springtime, but parka jackets and snow boots are sometimes just as common, depending on the year.
But the truth—whether or not we choose to accept it—is that spring is a fairly chilly season most years. It’s often frigid in the morning, even when it’s nearly tropical by the end of the day, which can be disastrous for anyone planning out outfits as soon as they wake up and praying they make sense later on. That’s why keeping a few lightweight jackets on standby is my favorite tricky weather hack.
Warmer temperatures are just around the corner, but until then, we plan to stun in the cutest spring coats on the market. Consider buying a cozy quilted option or a light-as-air windbreaker to wear over springier silhouettes, and slip it off as soon as the day warms up.
Below, you’ll find 21 spring jackets from a bevy of my favorite brands. No matter your price point, I can almost guarantee that there’s something for you on this list.

Corduroy Chore Jacket
Corduroy jackets are everything this season. The staple has been totally transformed in 2021, and I’ve been eyeing this one because it’s A) on sale and B) available in four different colors. This trendy green is my favorite, though.
The Cotton Quilted Jacket
Sometimes you just need a quilted jacket in your closet, am I right ladies? This one from Everlane is gorgeous on its own, but you can also layer it up if the weather does get chilly.
The Patch Pocket Car Coat
I’m a sucker for suede, and this faux-suede option looks way more expensive than it actually is. I have a hunch that longer jacket silhouettes will be all the rage this season, so this is a great way to ease out of cropped styles into something a bit more mature.
Curve Lather Look Jacket
Don’t get it twisted—springtime weather can be cold AF. This faux leather pick has just enough shearling lining to keep you cozy without looking all bundled up.
Provence Hooded Checkered Jacket
This short checked jacket from OBEY has a borrowed-from-the-boys vibe that I am totally here for this season. Bonus points for the use of sage green, the most popular hue of the season!
You have enough dark jackets in your collection, so let this baby blue option be a bright spot in your wardrobe this season. The plush lining and relaxed silhouette make this the ideal transitional piece.
This faux-leather shirt jacket by ALC is the on-trend answer to those workwear-inspired pieces that you’ve been seeing on social media lately. Wear it as a set with the coordinating shorts or with a pair of black jeans for some contrast.
Cinched Waist Jacket
Think of this jacket as the updated version of those olive utility jackets that you wore back in 2015. The flattering cinched waistline adds some shape to this otherwise relaxed silhouette.
Faux-Fur Lapels Biker Jacket
This shearling-lined leather jacket is a great option for chillier spring days when the weather won’t rise over fifty degrees. Plus, the oversized fit makes layering a breeze.
Marlton Colorblock Shirt Jacket
Lavender and tan is the color combo I never knew I needed. Entirely-pastel outfits have been blowing up my For You Page on TikTok and Instagram feeds recently, so it should go without saying that this shirt jacket by If By Sea is already in my cart.
Tan Moto Bomber Jacket
If you’re a fan of shearling, I can’t think a better jacket than this one from Moon River. The uber-fluffy fabric is on both the inner lining and the outside of this piece, so you’ll look as cozy as you feel.
Classic Trench Coat
Yes, this tan trench coat from Buxom Couture is a bit of a splurge, but hear me out. It’s a classic piece that you will literally have in your closet for the next 30 years, so it’s worth it.
Your closet called—it said it could use some color. Winter is over, baby! Put away your slew of black, navy and brown pieces in favor of this Kelly green option from Mackage.
Riley Teddy Jacket
This teddy jacket takes all the boxes: It’s under $100, comes in a wear-with-everything neutral color and is really, really comfortable. It feels just like your favorite hoodie, but looks way more fashionable.
Zip Front Utility Jacket
It’s easy to get sucked in while browsing the Target site, but this $35 jacket from Wild Fable stopped me dead in my tracks when I saw it IRL. The sage-green color! The cropped silhouette! It has all the makings of my new favorite coat—and it’s available in sizes 1X-4X.
Charcoal Maxi Windbreaker
I’m a huge fan of always keeping a lightweight windbreaker in my tote bag. They’re so thin that they can fold right up, so you’ll always be prepared for even the most out-of-the-blue weather. This one from PrettyLittleThing will go with all of your OOTDs, too.
Dusty Orange Nylon Longline Rain Jacket
Orange is one of the breakout hues this season, so why not try out this slightly faded shade from Torrid? This coat is available in sizes 0-30 (the equivalent of a 6X) so everyone can look cute in their layered looks.
Taylor Quilted Jacket
Now you can feel like you never actually got out of bed thanks to this blue quilted jacket by Cleobella. The mix of patterns and prints lends an on-trend boho vibe to your entire ensemble.
Classic Denim Jacket
You’ve definitely already got a classic jean jacket in your closet, but this vibrant red alternative is just begging to be color-blocked with all your springiest essentials. Don’t fight it!
Elara Bolero Puffer Jacket
I’ve had my eye on this ivory puffer from Bubish ever since it hit Revolve’s site. A puffy bolero? It’s just crazy enough to work, and I’m 100 percent here for it.
Sarabeth Puff-Sleeved Coat
If you’re done with neutrals, this coat from dRa comes in two warm hues—burnt orange and vibrant yellow—so you don’t have to settle for a less-than-stellar color. The canary color is selling out fast, though, so act now.
